Octopus counting


  • Blue, purple and pink paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Felt tip pen


Step 1: Cut out semi-circle from the pink paper.

Step 2: Stick the semi-circle on to other sheet of paper.

Step 3: Draw eyes, mouth and numbers 1 – 9 using felt tip pen.

Step 4: Cut out 9 tentacles.

Step 5: Glue half of the tentacles to the paper. Do not stick it fully.

TIP: Ask the child to draw any shape on the tentacle that represent the number above it. You can hang you octopus using a piece of string or pipe cleaner.

Finger print counting


  • A4 paper
  • Paint
  • Paint tray
  • Ruler
  • Pencil


Step 1: Using pencil and ruler divide the paper into 14 horizontal lines.

Step 2: Write the numbers from 1-14 on each line.

Step 3: Put paint on tray.

Step 4: Ask your child to dip their finger in the paint and paint dots based on the number that is written on the line

Ice cream counting


  • Coloured paper
  • Glue stick
  • Felt tip pen
  • Scissors


Step 1: Cut out four equal triangles.

Step 2: Stick triangles on the coloured paper.

Step 3: In each triangle using felt tip pen write numbers from 1 – 4.

Step 4: Cut out circles using different colour of paper.

Step 5: Stick correct amount of circles above the triangles to make ice cream cones.

TIP: During the play talk with your child about different shapes and colours. What is their favourite colour?

Number Pegs


  • Empty tissue paper box
  • Felt tip pen
  • 5 lollipop sticks
  • Scissors


Step 1: Write a numbers from 1 – 5 on each lollipop stick.

Step 2: On the bottom of the tissue paper box write numbers from 1 -5.

Step 3: Above the numbers draw the correct amount of circles. Make sure you leave a little gap above the numbers.

Step 4: Using scissors make a little hole above the numbers.

TIP: Play with your child or sibling by asking  to match the lollipop stick to the correct number by inserting the lollipop stick into the box.

Missing number cut and Paste Activity


  • 2 A4 paper
  • Crayons or felt tip pen
  • Ruler
  • Scissors


  • Step 1: Divide A4 paper into 12 equal squares using ruler and crayon or felt tip pen.

  • Step 2: Write a numbers in some squares in order from 1-12.

  • Step 3: Cut some squares from second paper.

  • Step 4: On the squares you cut out write the missing numbers.

TIP: Play with your child by placing the cut out number squares on the blank square in number order.

Pizza counting game


  • Scissors
  • Paper plates 2
  • Felt tip pens


  • Step 1: Take a felt tip pen and divide a paper plate into 8 equal triangular pieces.

  • Step 2: Write numbers in the order from 1 to 8 in each triangle.

  • Step 3: Take a second paper plate and divide into 8 equal pieces.

  • Step 4: Cut the plate with no numbers written on it.

  • Step 5: Using a coloured felt pen draw circles in each slice that correlate to the number on the other plate.

Tip: Play with your child to match the slices with the numbers.

Caterpillar number activity


  • A4 white paper
  • Coloured paper
  • 5 cupcake cases
  • Glue stick
  • Felt tip pen


  • Step 1: Draw a circle on the top left corner of the white paper.

  • Step 2: Draw a caterpillar face, eyes, mouth and antennas.

  • Step 3:  Write in each cupcake case a number from 1-5.

  • Step 4: Stick the cupcake cases in order from 1-5.

  • Step 5: Cut out 5 circles that fit into the cupcake cases from the coloured paper.

  • Step 6: Write a number from 1-5 on the coloured circles that relate to the number on the cupcake cases.

Tip: Play with your child by matching the number to the colour. Have fun!

Number activity


  • Scissors
  • 6 pieces of different coloured paper
  • 5 different coloured crayons/felt tip pens


  • Step 1:Using a piece of paper, cut out a big oval shape

  • Step 2:

With your child draw 5 different shapes using the 5 different coloured crayons/felt tips. For example, orange crayon or felt pen for a circle, blue for a triangle etc. You can use whatever colours you have!

  • Step 3: Write numbers inside the shapes using the same colour as the shape.

  • Step 4: Using the 5 remaining coloured pieces of paper, draw and cut out the shapes to match those on the oval paper

  • Step 5: Write the numbers 1 to 5 on the shapes.

  • TIP-Play with your child or siblings matching the shapes, numbers or colours together! Remember to have fun!

  • Step 1: Start by drawing 4 vertical random lines to divide paper into 5 parts.

  • Step 2: Draw one random horizontal line.

  • Step 3: Write numbers in order 1 to 10 in each box.

  • Step 4: Cut the numbers out.
